Cape Verde May Seek NATO Membership: Prime Minister

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization will hold its first big military exercise in Africa in the rocky, volcanic archipelago next year.

The exercise, code named LiveEx06, is meant to be the final test of a new 20,000-strong rapid reaction force which NATO hopes to be able to send to far-flung trouble spots at short notice.

It will last about a month and involve thousands of air, sea and ground forces.
